Document Summary

Hypothesis - declarative statements that predict specific relationships among variables or differences between two groups of people with one variable. (i. e. visualization training reduces communication apprehension or male speakers interrupt more frequently than female speakers) (p. 16) Research question - interrogatives statements that ask, what is the relationship or is there some relationship among communication variables or processes. (p. 16) *the difference between the hypothesis and the research question is that the research question actually asks a question that is trying to be determined while the hypothesis proves the possible answers to the the research question. To conduct the research there is a null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis which explore two different possible outcomes of the research question. The research is then conducted once the research question and hypothesis are written and clear. (ex. Null hypothesis: male speakers interrupt more frequently than female speakers, alternative hypothesis: male speakers do not interrupt more frequently than female speakers. )
