Violent crimes: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, robbery, forcible rape, aggravated assault. Property crimes: burglary, robbery, larceny, motor vehicle theft. Importance of the ucr percentage changes in the incidence of crimes occurring in a particular time frame to calculate crime rates: number of reported crimes divided by the total us population multiplied by 100. Many crimes are excluded from the index. Many crimes go unreported: unreported crimes are referred to as dark figure of crime only the most serious offenses are reported crimes are recorded inconsistently. Nibrs- program that requires local police agencies to provide a brief account of each incident and arrest within 22 crime patterns, including incident, victim and offender information. Doesn"t use the hierarchy rule, if more than one crime was committed they are all reported instead of just the most severe offense.
