Sociology is the study of a society, how people interact with each other and what makes up those interactions. Patterns of behavior, why are we doing what we are doing. Durkheim: suicide- emile durkheim"s research showed that society affects are most personal choices. Most likely to commit: male protestants, wealthy and unmarried. Less likely to commit: male jews and catholics who were poor and married. Sociological imagination helps us understand not only our society but our lives as well (closely related) Helps us assess the truth of common sense. Helps us assess both opportunities" and constraints in our lives. Empowers us to be active participants in our society. Where we live shapes the lives we lead.
