Document Summary

Life: organisms that can replicate with dna, convert dna into their products and using it to produce cellular machinery to survive. Functional section of rna was used to identify if it was living. Non function section was used to distinguish species. Found that prokaryotes are more diverse than rst thought. Current tree of life idea: (only what is in red is not a microorganism) Eventually accepted because it is explained by many other observations. Such as the structure of rna polymerase which di er from the three domains. Membrane lipids back up the 3 domain idea. Some are shared between the groups, showing the directionality of evolution. New discoveries are always modifying the three of life. We don"t know enough yet to conclusively put it into the table. Describes the cellular organization of modern day archaea and bacteria. Engul ng of other organisms to create a permanent relationship between two organisms that are otherwise not related.
