Document Summary

Speciation: the way we get new species on the planet. Gene ow is the movement of alleles between populations: allopatric speciation physical (typically landscape) separation in space, sympatric separation within the same environment (different niches / habitats) not obvious physical transformation. Speciation occurs when species are driven to two different extremes. Ex. mammals being blown on brush wood over the river to another location and are isolated. Ex. seeds oating through air or on animals to another location and are isolated. Ex. bird ying to another location and being isolated: vicariance (barriers that separate groups): separated but individuals do not more themselves, individuals have no control a river separating them, a mountain raising up. Sh experience a drought and one big lake become. Ex. when the continents break up and separate over time (*individuals do not move but the continent does*)
