Surface area effects: mechanical breakup of rock increases surface area and surface:volume ratio, more surface exposed, greater opportunity for chemical weathering. Minerals dissolve and get carried away by water. Both usually happen at same time: amount of co2 affects acidity of water, three chemical weather reactions. Oxidation: different weathering rates based on chemical composition, hotter temperature, faster weathering.
