Monday, april 23, 2018: travel and shipping are cheap and safe. 1800- two months to cross atlantic by ship. Today- 5 hours by plane: less than a week by ship, governments have lessened tariffs and regulations on trade. Reducing costs to produce goods: old industrialism: domestic markets, today: foreign markets. Pros: globalization has moved some 600 million people out of poverty worldwide in the last 30 years, greater employment means greater life expectancy. 1% increase in unemployment results in 30k deaths.
