There is currently an obsession with the ideal body weight. People with eating disorders have altered their zone of indifference. Usually increasing it so they can learn to ignore feelings of hunger. In lab settings restrained eaters overeat after anxiety, distraction, and positive or negative moods, but not hunger. Hunger is mostly a homeostatic process but it has taken a 2nd place role. Because of modern environmental modi cations humans tend to be much more in uenced by learning, culture, and ideals. The theory that drive is the basis of motivation may not be correct not completely anyway. Hull hypothesized that the higher the drivethe higher the motivation to ful ll that drive. In contrast he said when motivation is satis eddrive declines. Ethology: study that believes hull ignores the biological aspect of motivation. More variable and sensitive to environmental factors. Certain species of sh have bellies that turn red in the spring.
