A. the distinction between native americans and all other minority groups is that they lived here. They were not ghting over labor, but land and property. Contact situation was important in later explaining issues. They were conquered and colonized over a 300 year period. Therefore they were much more removed for a long time. Today, native americans are at or near the bottom of every social issue mores than any other minority group: culture. Differed from the culture of the colonizer in multiple ways. They did not have a notion of private property. Valued the group over individualism sense of self was linked to tribe and immediate family. Europeans were an every man for themselves kind of culture. Native americans had a more equal understanding regarding family members regardless of whether person is man, woman, or child: relations with federal government after the 1890s. Did not have access to k-12 education. 1934 (repealed the dawes act of 1887)
