Many movements during the 60s saw a shift between the peaceful paci sm of the civil rights movement, and proposed violence of the black panther movement. The black panthers carried guns more as a method of intimidation and not to instigate violence. Because of this they have a lasting reputation of being incredibly violent, however, this is not the case. They wanted to intimidate, to show their rights as citizens, and to observe. They strictly engaged the law and their rights and citizens. Did a lot of cop watches so they could witness instances of police brutality. Not religiously centered at odds with older gures in the black community that used different peaceful tactics during the civil rights movement. To ask that someones like is relevant almost seems pre civil rights. It would seem so since the demands of this movement are actually less bold than the civil rights movement or the black panthers movement.
