Document Summary

Chapter 9: asian americans con . : japanese americans. Very different in terms of entry and numbers. Tried to ban additional japanese immigration given that it was too high . Under this ban, they were able to create a 2nd generation. There was a time where japanese outnumbered the chinese. The campaign also attempted to dislodge japanese from agriculture. Stereotyped as creature of their emperor before, during, and after wwii. In reality the japanese who immigrated at this time were less likely to be loyal to they emperor. Not able to gain high paying jobs with it though. After pearl harbor, because of the suspicion all japanese had a connection to the empire. No one was killed, but they were deprived of freedoms and livelihood. Many of the japanese in the camps were actually citizens. In 1948, there was an attempt to compensate those who suffered in the camps. 20,000$ was given to some 60,000 japanese in reparations.
