Both turkey and pakistan have focused a lot of attention on war-making, be it cyprus/the kurds or india/afghanistan respectively. They both have had the military actively intervene in the political system multiple times. Both countries receive large amounts of us aid. A key part of why turkey"s development has been more successful was the leadership of ataturk. He restrained the foreign policy and actively worked to establishing secularism within the country. Turkey began land reforms early on, and after the cold war began to liberalize its trade. In contrast, pakistan did not began land reforms early, and to this day, land is still largely concentrated in the hands of the elite.
