Regarding human nature, they believed people were made of a body and soul, and that they belonged together. Believed the body and soul are together and are inseparable: compared w/2 watchmen parable who steal fruit. One man is blind the other can"t walk. God will not listen to separate excuses. By carrying a mitzot you are blessed by god and closer to god"s will. Not to be understood as law/ commandment, commandments that let you delight in the sacredness of life. The earth is god"s god gifted them with earth so if you don"t thank god it is seen as stealing from god. Function in place of the temple because it hadn"t been replaced. Create a holy community for people who see themselves. Today we use rabbinic judaism as god"s people: has the hebrew bible and accepts that the oral torah as having importance, uses mitzvot.
