Women face obstacles to getting involved in politics and the economy, getting an education and also face significant violence and harassment: people argue that it is just how the culture is in the middle east. Female reformists in the middle east come from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives: non islamic feminism, pride for their beliefs in islam. Islam has built in gender inequalities: arab culture is masculine. Leads to a weaker role in society and politics if women aren"t employed broadly: not enough jobs so lots of restless young man. States , some of which aren"t muslim or authoritarian. Doesn"t change the fact that it is still an issue in the middle east (1) shouldn"t demonize islam or arab culture, though because it is an issue worldwide. Some claim that patriarchal norms are reproduced through family to society and politics, leading to strong men authoritarians: removes voices of women through political debates, making mass reform movements for democracy harder.
