Media plays an important role in shaping the feelings and attitudes of people around the country. People perceive the people around that as increasingly similar to the medias portrayal. (caricatures) Simple, docile, black man was a common portrayal of black men. The jim crow was a dance that was created when dancing was outlawed. Imitations of this became known as the jim crow character. People who hadn"t ever seen a black person were fed these images of. These characters became incredibly prominent during the political discussion. People were always shown happy slaves in the media and therefore white people generally accepted slavery as a good thing. Zibkone began to attempt to imitate whites. The mammy: was happy, large, protective, loyal, and obedient. Never received sexual allure because she would become a threat to the entire system. In the mammy"s family she is in control which directly contradicts traditional white gender roles.
