Mannerism is a style, but emerged out of the renaissance; depiction of things were so beautiful, (cid:271)ut it"s (cid:271)e(cid:455)o(cid:374)d realit(cid:455) for gra(cid:272)e. Incredibly influenced by michelangelo, but taken to the extreme. Happening during the chaos of the reformation: jacopo da pontormo, descent from the cross, capponi chapel, florence, italy. Focus on the human body, almost an abstract appearance glowing with pink and blue lights; almost supernatural and clashing. Nothing in the center of the piece, but figures are organized around it. People are(cid:374)"t a(cid:271)le to (cid:271)e literall(cid:455) depi(cid:272)ted ho(cid:449) the(cid:455) are; i(cid:374)a(cid:272)(cid:272)urate. Christ has an incredibly long torso; figures are distorted (intentional: bronzino, venus, cupid, folly and time (the exposure of luxury), c. 1546, oil on wood. Commissioned by a cosimo medici of tuscany, gift to the king of france. Style was for kings, dukes, and the rich.
