Key light - main light source, brightest; having just key lighting leaves shadows. Fill light- secondary lighting, 2 f-stops less/ softer than key light; can be its own light or light that is bounced off of an object. Back light- behind subject, helps define subject in space. High-key lighting - dominant american tradition lighting, makes subject look more attractive. Low-key lighting - key primary source, no fill or little fill. Motivated low-key: a light source appears on the frame and suggests that it is the light source; most likely there is another light on set that is actually creating the light.
