Baseball color line - term used to explain exclusion of aa from major league baseball. 1862- aa officially barred from the league. 1886-1888- several other aa played in the minor league. 1890 - gentleman"s agreement to ban aa from all white-owned leagues. No explicit rule, but they just all decided together. Black players wouldn"t play in the league for over 50 years. 19th century: several short lived negro leagues formed; barnstormer teams played exhibitions. 1920 to 1946: several other negro leagues formed. They were stilled barred from the mlb.
