The achievement gap has increased in hispanics and blacks in high school graduation rates. In college graduation rates, asians graduate more than all other race/ethnicities. An overstated conclusion that all asians are a model minority that do well. Overlooks the fact that there are many subgroups of. Asians that don"t make as much as the top tier. Not all asian subgroups do as well as others. Some other asian subgroups are subjected to lower income, poverty, lower education, but you can"t see all that when you average it. There is no single "asian" culture that explains commitment to family, education, and success. Selective immigration policy favoring the highly educated and skilled. Symbolic interaction and education: interpreting race and ethnicity in school. Non-white students are less likely to be placed in. Non-white students are less likely to be placed in advanced "tracks" Cultural capital: package of cultural skills, tastes, manners, social connections, etc.
