Paint thrown through fans, dripped off fans, dripped off paint sticks. Huge canvases, laid on floor, pinned to wall. Another development in art that requires knowledge of the movement to understand the art. Avant garde art moves from europe after ww2 because very little is left after the world. People too focused on reconstructing their homes/lives, to create art. Focus on different ideas to put into art. Abstract, but expresses the mind, supposed to be understood by outsiders, not art historians. walking over canvas. Almost like a dance, because movement is the art, but pollock"s movement creates the art. Supposed to be a personal interpretation on the part of the viewer. Tied to surrealists for apparent release of the subconscious, links to unconscious. Size and lack of focus move pollock away from traditional easel painting. Comes from ideas of industrial art, like coca cola labels, campbell"s soup cans, etc.
