Many customers an stakeholders want to align themselves with and support environmentally friendly companies. Jit just in time attempting to keep inventories low and eliminating waste originally pioneered by henry ford, refined by toyota: customer value what the customer is willing to pay for. Not waste, defects, rework, scrap, testing, excessive handling, transportation, etc: waste anything that does not add value from the customer perspective. Parts arrive at the right spot, at the right time, and in the proper quantity. Production is triggered by actual demand (that could be customer demand or internal demand). See exhibit 13. 1 on page 419: page 420 toyota production systems, eliminate the 7 types of waste, overproduction, wasted time, transportation waste. This process ensures everyone understands the current state.
