Accomodationists- give in to government, go to reservations, many groups go with it. Marks the start of 30 years of war between the us gov and western indians. Minnesota territory- sioux indians suntee sioux led by chief little crow. 1862 - bad crop year for suntee sioux, they need stuff from trade post but their annuity payment hasn"t been received yet. They try to get food off credit but are refused. Us soldiers are pulled from the civil war to quell uprising. Us collects 1700 indians and brings them to ft snelling. 1300 are let go, 400 are tried, found guilty and sentenced to hanging. Lincoln stops all but 38 of the hangings. Group who did not battle are looking for trouble.
