Karl von frisch: discovered the idea that such a simple insect could have something as complex as a language. Bee hives: remember that real bee hives are dark on the inside, and they are not seeing the waggle dance, but instead are feeling the waggle dance. They will die if they don"t have energetics to get them through the winter (honey). The bee will come in and do a waggle dance; if the sun is directly above the bee, and the pollen is 15 degrees off from the sun, then they will indicate that in the dance with the tilt. The duration of the waggle will indicate the distance traveled. Remember in the graph of x (distance) vs y (waggle time), the relationship will be linearly positive. However, there is a difference in that sometimes the slope is greater than 1, which means that there are repeated instances in which the waggle time is much longer than distance.
