Larger houses and larger lots: so-called american dream. Freeways made it possible: affordable cars, cheap gasoline. New trend - gentrification: more people are moving back into cities, renovating older home, new infill construction, e. g. , germantown in nashville, 12 south, good revitalization and economic development, bad original low income residents are displaced. Health impact of urban sprawl: direct effects of reliance on the cars. Pedestrian and bicycle fatalities: reduction in physical activity, water quality and quantity, urban heat sink and global warming, mental health impacts, concentrated poverty.
