FASH 290 Lecture 9: FASH 290 board notes- chapter 10 - Yarn Processing (1)
Document Summary
Used in smooth lustrous fabrics or where high strength, compact yarns are needed. 2. bcf yarns bulk continuous filament yarns (textured) Air jet (jets of air can be used to do a # of things in this case they add a texture to filaments) Spun yarns made from staple fibers -oldest, most complex method. Fiber ends give comfort, warmth, dull luster, fuzzy appearance, lint and pilling, hold soil. To spin staple fibers: clean and make parallel, draw them to a fine strand, twist to hold together. Combing (optional -only long fine fibers, adds $ = finer, stronger, better quality) cotton/cotton like =combed, wool/wool like = worsted. Conventional ring spinning (good all round quality slow) Filament to tow and tow to yarn --(turning filament tow to spun yarns already aligned so no carding needed. Blending fibers in a fabric (physical ways fibers can be blended)
