Usually topical or additive in nature (wet process) -not subtractive like some of the aesthetic finishes. Cotton, flax, lyocell and hwm rayon - relaxation shrinkage /a little progressive. Heat set synthetics -relaxation shrinkage / no progressive. Thermoplastics: heat set and there is no progressive shrinkage. Wool: halogenation /coat scale with a polyamide film. Rayon: use of resins to prevent swelling and stretching. 2. shape retention finishes: wrinkle-free, durable press, permanent press (to fabric or finished garment) Wrinkle recovery theory: strong hydrogen cross-links return molecules to their original shape. Apply resin cross-linking solution= immerse, spray, or vapor.
