Affect (+/-: general feeling state that provides the raw material for emotions and moods, circumplex map of emotion, aroused (activation), positive (valence), not aroused (activation) , Emotions and interpersonal relationships: guilt vs. shame. When we feel responsible for the negative affective state of someone else. Purpose of guilt: protects and strengthens interpersonal relationships. Preventative: keeps people from doing things that would harm the relationship. Demonstrating guilt shows you care about your relationship partners.
