Stability and convection: stable situation: no matter where you move an air bubble, it will come back to the start position, unstable: will not return, relationship based on adiabatic + environmental lr. In this case, the air bubble is warmer than the air it is traveling. Eventually will hit condensation level and form a cloud. Most common in the summer through, so it will keep rising (unstable) The air bubble is cooling faster than the surrounding air, will go back down, stable: most common in winter, most common situation, elr split because dar and mar, conditionally unstable. If air rises high enough, clouds will form. Convection leads to clouds: gets air rising, defining types of clouds. Bubbles of air cools at the adiabatic lapse rate. Cools off at dry rate first, then moist.
