Latitude: and elevaion: vertical zonation: increasing elevation has similar effect on ecosystem as traveling to higher altitudes. 9 biomes: tundra, boreal forest, temperate rain forest, temperate deciduous, temperate grasslands, chaparral, desert, savanna, tropical rainforest. Temperate rainforests: nutrient poor soils but high in organic matter, high biomass, variety of cold climate animals, very high species richness, heavily logged (monocultures planted) , decomposition is slow because still cold, coniferous/deciduous, dense fog and high precipitation.
