Chemical reactions, used to eliminate wastes, provides support, cohesive force aids in movement of fluids through vessels in plants, evaporation is cooling, saliva is a lubricant, it has surface tension. Relative water content (rwc)=(fresh weight-dry weight)/(turgid weight-dry weight) x 100. Water stressed plants drop their leaves: leaf abscission: this reduces the amount of root mass needed to supply water under arid conditions. Trapped as permafrost (unavailable) called frost drought. Freshwater fish are hyper-osmotic (relative to surroundings)
