Sheep: care for young: elastrator (dock or castrate) Spread elastic ring and slip tail through. Remove elastic from prong and push onto tail. Use 1 in notched board to protect lamb. Dock on bright sunny day and allow them to rest: castration: Castrate is ram lambs are not to be marketed by 5 mo, when whethers are required for carcass or market lamb shows, when it"s impossible to separate ewes and rams. Cut off bottom 1/3 of scrotal sack w/ testes above it then grab each teste one at a time and pull out of scrotum slowly to break spermatic cord. Use emasculatome on bigger lambs or if hernia is suspected, clamp each spermatic cord to sever it from body and the testes should shrivel up and be reabsorbed. Necessary to select breeding stock and sale animals, register purebreeds, and determine offspring. Stencils right after birth for mom and baby.
