Same time period that the explorers started to get their act together. 1800 europeans are knocking on chinas door asking to get into theur market, and trade openly. Not letting chinease society change, not embrace any foreign technologies. Europeans went in on battle ships and forced the chinease to trade!!! With guns and forced them to buy their things, and europeans bought chinas things. When europeans showed up,they broke the govs hold on trade. Chinease gov tries to stop it but british says it is their god given right to sell opium. Says open and free trade is the way to success and we should fight for opena nd free trade all the time god given right.
