GEOG 1104 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Microsoft Powerpoint, Sea Level Rise, Felix Baumgartner
Document Summary
Geog 1104 lecture 4 climate change, atm basics, and oxygen/elevation. Continued talk about climate change: climate impacts on biota, humans. Atm basics: pressure, structure of atmosphere (atm, temperature, energy distribution, earth-sun relationships. Powerpoint workshop outline 50 points: still in progress, attend one of 2 or 3 workshops, conduct short research and submit a few slides, submit a full but short 5 min research presentation, give the presentation in class. Climate change is causing growing global food insecurity: possible benefits to agriculture (many say drawbacks will outweigh any benefits, see this link) greater yields in. Some places due to enhanced co2, longer growing seasons (temp increase), and increased rainfall: projected drawbacks to agriculture, more frequent droughts, heat stress, shortened life cycles, increase flooding and salinization, and more. Some range shifts even create feedbacks (positive or negative) on the climate system, altering the pace of climate change. Not all places will be affected by climate change in the same way.
