Nation many sub nations possible within a state, where people find their strength/belonging. ***important to study how identity affects political outcomes. Sedan african or arab? (southern sedan separate state, darfur crisis) The ways in which individuals and or groups define themselves. It often involves a set of traits and characteristics which are shared among these groups and individuals. Class/sex & gender (ex: indian caste system merges ethnicity and class) Ethnicity is socio-culturally manufactured built on notions of cultural difference based on variations in language, history, religion, family name and even country of origin. (race affiliation?) Nationality is also a socially and culturally constructed sense of belonging based on national political affiliation and legal citizenship. (has to do with nation, i am american , political definition)
