Nominal communicates differences between units of analysis (uoa) on the characteristics being measure. Recorded in numeric codes, as these codes do not represent quantities they merely record differences; they are the least precise. Nominal measurement merely classifies cases without rgard to rank or distances between casesl it provides the least information about phenomena. Plus, the values permit you to classify respondents into different categories; but unlike nominal variables, the values permit you to distinguish the relative amount of the characteristic being measured. These codes impart rank that underlies the values. Classifies ranks cases without regard to the distance between them; provides more information because allows us both to categories and to order, or rank, phenomena. Ordinal measurement allow sus to associate a number with each case in terms of rank. Examples: rating one"s attitude toward a political party on a scale of 1-4, team rankings.
