This is all occurring while living with the constant fear that the next heartbeat could be her last. She felt like she wanted to give up. She went through over 60 heart biopsies, which involve extracting vital tissue from the heart while being awake. She felt erratic beats fairly often, but one night she went into ventricular fibrillation, which required an er visit and a defibrillation since there wasn"t enough time for antiarrhythmic drugs. Following this the doctor who originally coined the phrase sick girl arranged for a trial and error test that would target the right drug to keep the heart from going into v-fib again. After flat lining and coming back to life on the table, unfortunately the test brought back no drugs that would work. This is when a heart transplant was first suggested and amy was against it from the start.
