Document Summary

Rely on future costs more than on present damage. A tactic of the weak: i. e. sanctions for prosperous but militarily weak countries; (civil) war for militarily strong, impact uncertain, dependent on external responses, and takes a long time to achieve. Terrorism has a goal or purpose (usually political) Terrorism (to terrorists) is justified by the future: changing society (democratic, islamic, environmental, socialist, etc. ) Why is terrorism so difficult to define: wasn"t always terrorist used to simply call themselves terrorist, terrorist almost always reject the term. Terrorism is viewed as morally repugnant; attacking enemy is not: example: 45% of palestinians support terrorism but 90% support bombing of israeli clubs and restaurants. My friend can"t be a terrorist but can be a freedom fighter: e. g. Funding of mujahedin in afghanistan during 1980s as freedom fighters vs. fighting the taliban in afghanistan as terrorist during the 2000s.
