Psyche- the totality of the human mind, conscious and unconscious. In greek mythology, psyche was the deification of the human soul (cid:498)she(cid:499) was portrayed as a goddess with butterfly wings. Psyche literally means soul, spirit, breath, life or animating force. She was portrayed as someone loved by eros. The scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Nativism or nature: certain kinds of knowledge are innate or inborn: social constructivism. Philosophical empiricism: all knowledge is acquired through experience. Dualism: how mental activity can be reconciled by mental activity. Going running and having new thoughts come to you. The mind (brain activity) is what the body does. Phrenology- specific mental abilities and characteristics are localized in certain areas of the brain. Damage to this area may cause the person to not be able to produce language but will still be able to comprehend. Damage to this area impacts comprehension of language but not production. Wilhelm wundt 1832- 1920 and edward titchener 1867-1927.
