Body temperature body is cold in the morning/when sleeping. Ex: cortisol levels shift over sleep periods. If you lock someone up with no external light source, body will still keep track of time, around 24 hour cycle. Suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus can detect light intensity from optic nerve. (the biological clock) Melatonin not required to go to sleep it just helps facilitate entering into sleep cycle.
