Dance in the middle ages through the 14th century: Vocal dances (singing while dancing in the streets) Danced in ballrooms, halls of castles or at the homes of nobility. Danced around a pole with ribbons (may pole) Prevented vulgar thoughts (had to think about the step so they couldn"t think about sexual feelings) Dance for the wealthy around the 1400. Basse danse (bassa): means low to the ground. Both the rich and the poor participated. Done in a circle or chain procession. Lusty solo using gestures and sometimes done as a line dance to mock battle. Bells featured on moresca costumes: the noise is thought to banish any evil. King charles vi 1393: decides to join, he disguises himself uses a torch to see, causing the dancers to catch on fire, women saved the king using their velvet dresses. The english variant of the moresca is the morris.
