WRIT 101 Lecture 1: WRIT 101
Document Summary
Summary- a short restatement of main points from a passage. Summaries will vary based on reader"s interpretation: experience of the chosen subject will also cause different summaries. A good summary will get the point across clearly while also giving information prior that is needed to understand the subject. Be attentive while reading to be able to decipher what is needed and important, over what is not. Recognize the writer"s reason for writing: identifying the who, what, where, why, when, and how may help when writing a thesis. Go back through text and highlight or draw attention to what is most important: show connections between different sentences and thoughts. Make a short passage to group together thoughts and statements. Thesis- must include a subject and an assertion about subject: can vary in length. Decide whether you want a long or short summary: long will allow for more details, while shorter is just brief sections of information.
