Temperament is a combination of genetic and environmental factors: Genetic (biological factors): the temperament of the biological parents affects the temperament of the child. Parent (environmental factors): warm parenting can decrease the likelihood of external problems. Inhibited children tend to have issues with anxiety, withdrawal, and depression later in life. Goodness of fit: degree to which an individual"s temperament is compatable with the environment. Differential susceptibility: individuals vary in the degree they are affected by experiences or qualities they are exposed to. Some individuals are more susceptible to such influences than others not only to negative, but also, positive ones. Dandelion children thrive no matter if the circumstances are positive or negative. This focuses on the plasticity of the brain, the adaptability of the disposition of the individual. The more malleable, the more susceptible they are to the experience. Family is the primary environment of children during their early stages of dev.
