Experimental studies of children in a single age group. Independent variable and random assignment: assign participants to conditions, create standardized setting, manipulate the independent variable, measure dependent variable, compare results, conclusion, age as a grouping variable plus additional iv, ex. Group of 5-year old"s reading normal passage and read error passage. Group of 9-year old"s reading normal passage and read error passage. When reading passage with the error, what will happen with the eye movements. Can have a hypothesis in mind when comparing the two groups, but we compare the difference in the types of eye movements in their own groups. Ethical issues: guidelines (considering infants, minimize risk (even if risk is minimal, informed participation: What about infants? (role of parents, infant is too young to understand and consent, so it falls on the role of the parents: avoid deception (if necessary, explain asap) Can"t explain to an infant why they were lied to or deceived.
