Traumatic event- an event that involves actual or threatened violence (death, serious injury, or sexual violence) to self or to others. Also involves repeated exposed to such violence (re-experience) **exposure to the media does not count** 3000 people from over 80 countries were killed. When someone is forced or coerced into unwanted sexual activity without agreeing or consenting because of: Distressing images or thoughts of the incident. Psychological/physiological distress at exposure to cues that symbolize or resemble event. Persistent avoidance of stimuli associated with the trauma. Feelings of restlessness and agitation, anger and irritability, and sleep disturbances. Veteran hears loud bang and falls to ground (ready for combat) Dissociation: disruption of normally integrated mental processes involved in memory, consciousness, identity or perception. Derealization (the world is unreal, you feel like you"re living in a nightmare) Dissociative amnesia (you"re unable to remember certain important aspects of a traumatic event)
