By the end of this module, students will be able to: Identify central questions examined by developmental scientists: define the study of human development, compare and contrast major metatheories, classify theories into categories (behavioral, cognitive, psychodynamic, compare and contrast the questions and goals of different theories. Identify major theories which have shaped scientific research of human development. Human development is the scientific study of patterns of movement or change and stability that begin at conception and continues through the human life span. Each of us has a unique path of development that might be different from other people in some aspects but not in the others. Developmental scientists realize that important developmental changes occur throughout the entire life span, from conception all the way to death. Biological processes: produce change in an individual"s physical nature. Cognitive processes: refers to changes in the individual"s thought, intelligence, and language.
