You can only act an action not an emotion. That will make them take action which will start the story. Plays are stories of people trying to get their goals and the obstacles they face. Character s goals: they always pursue goals through actions. Every scene has a goal, need of conflict and dramatic tension. Most times to someone else, to modify or benefit. Characters have goals at every moment of the scene. Protagonist is the character that starts the play. Identify beginning, middle and end of the scene. Figure out the action, strategy and goal of the characters.
