Document Summary

Water soluble vitamins (coenzyme a, vitamin b1, b2, b6, c and h) It includes at least 10-11 different water soluble vitamins. B-complex because all the members" acts as coenzymes and their actions are closely related. Vitamin b1 is also called as anti-beri beri vitamin and and-neuritic vitamin. Thiamine is present as a crystal of thiamine hydrochloride. Chemically thiamine contains a pyrimidine ring and a thiazole ring linked by a methylene bridge. The alcohol group on the thiazole ring is esterified with two phosphoric acid molecules to form thiamine pyrophosphate (tpp). Thiamine pyrophosphate is the active co-enzyme form of thiamine. The richest sources of thiamine are rice bran, wheat bran, whole grains, nuts, germinating seeds, pulses, beans, lentils, yeast, liver, eggs, fish, meat and milk. This vitamin cannot be stored in the body, as it is excreted in the urine, hence it should be provided daily in the diet.
