Unhcr (united nations high committee of refugees: created in 1950, a foundational program for refugees, 1951 convention on refugees. Was created to give refugees rights and protections if they could prove that they faced persecution in their home country. Well-founded fear of being persecuted on grounds of race, religion, nationality, membership of particular social group or political opinion . This de nition does not include displaced persons. So the question becomes, who is a refugee: durable solution. Repatriation: bad stu in home country ends so refugee can return. Refugee camps: when you are a refugee at the camp you apply for asylum, you can leave the camp, then you lose your place in the asylum line, so it really is a form of incarceration. Part of the de nition of refugee that isn"t included: sexuality, economic status, gender/ sexual identity, environmental status, disabled individuals. Integration is a two way street celebrate cultural di erences.
