Document Summary

Socrates lived in greece from 469 bc to 399 bc. His father, sophroniskus was a sculptor and his mother, phaenarete was a midwife. His family was respectable in decent, but humble in terms of livelihood. He received the typical education of an athenian citizen, however, his interests were broad. As a teenager, he enjoyed gymnastics and music. He also learned geometry, astronomy, philosophy, greek culture and politics. He started his adult life as a sculptor. Later, he abandoned art and drawn to his innate passion of education. He was up to the challenge to convict men of ignorance mistaking itself for knowledge, in order to advance their intellectual and moral values. Those who were hurt by the process were unfriendly but to those who understood him, he was admired, respected, and loved. Socrates was deeply religious and very in touch with his soul.
