Document Summary

Analysis of ir spectra of some simple - In the ir spectrum of alcohol, the most important band arises from the hydroxyl (oh) stretch. For a free o-h group, is expected at 3650-3600 cm-1. Strong band at 1300-1000 cm-1 is attributable to the c-o bond stretch. C-h bonds have sp3 hybridized carbon and bands at 300-2850 cm-1. Around 1400 cm-1 for the h-c-h bands associated with ch2 and ch3 groups. Ir spectra of ethanol: the broad band at 3500-3200 cm-1 indicates the o-h stretch of a hydrogen bonded - Oh group: the sharp peak near 1050 cm-1 is attributable to the co single bond stretch, bands near 3000 cm-1 are those for the c-h stretches of the ethyl group. 1: the bonds around 1400 cm-1 are attributable to the c-h bend associated with ch3 and ch2 groups, ir spectra of aldehydes.
